OAK Racing were unable to reproduce their practice form during qualifying for the 6 Hours of Silverstone this afternoon with the team’s pair of Morgan-Nissan 2012 LMP2s managing just the ninth and 12th fastest times in class.

Bertrand Baguette and Matthieu Lahaye began the 20-minute session with cut-slick tyres after opting to play it safe on a rapidly drying track.

But it wasn’t long before both drivers were back into the pits for full slicks and Baguette instantly used his to good effect by jumping up to second. Unfortunately a combination of faster times set on an improving surface and traffic hindered the Belgian from improving further.

Meanwhile Lahaye proved just how competitive this year’s World Endurance Championship LMP2 grid really is by ending up 12th, albeit only 1.3secs shy of pole!

Matthieu Lahaye, #24 Morgan 2012 LMP2: “We had the same balance as this morning but were losing out noticeably to other cars at certain sections of the circuit and I have no idea why. We’ll need to look at the data and analyse what’s going on. 12th isn’t ideal but six hours offers us ample opportunity to make up the deficit.”

Bertrand Baguette, #35 Morgan 2012 LMP2: “I set my best lap immediately after pitting for slicks so there was a lot more time in the car. The following three laps were spent fighting traffic so we lost a few opportunities to improve. It’s frustrating but at least we know there is more to come tomorrow.”

Sunday’s race begins at 12:00 local time.
