Silverstone-based ADR-Delta narrowly missed out on claiming their third consecutive FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) LMP2 class pole position at Silverstone today during official qualifying for tomorrow’s 6 Hours of Silverstone – round four of the 2012 FIA WEC.

John Martin, the pole position qualifier at Spa-Francorchamps and Le Mans, was looking for a hat-trick at the team’s home circuit, but was slowed in traffic during his qualifying lap leaving the Australian a frustrated third in class, tenth overall, for the big race.

Despite Martin’s disappointment at not being able to claim pole position, ADR-Delta again displayed their potential as a front-running team in the LMP2 category.

John Martin: “I really wanted three [pole positions] in a row but sadly I had to get out of the throttle at the wrong time and that was it. The car felt really good and if I hadn’t been forced to slow I am pretty confident I could have grabbed pole. The guys have worked so hard this weekend and I think we are in good shape for tomorrow.”

Simon Dowson, Team Manager: “It would have been good to start our home race from pole position but we mustn’t be disappointed. We are the fastest Oreca chassis on the grid and we must be pleased with that.”

Alan Docking, Team Principal: “John was unlucky not to set the pole position time today but long distance races are not won in qualifying. We believe we have a good car for the race and our aim is to challenge for victory in this our home race.”
