Round 2 of SuperGT saw Audi Team Hitotsuyama and Lyons break new ground in their quest for a result at what is traditionally their bogey circuit. The new R8 LMS performed solidly throughout the race with its Dunlop tyres anchoring it to the road and keeping Lyons in the hunt for points. With a solid P7 result at the chequered flag, Lyons and team mate Fujii can take heart from this finish.
Looking ahead to more favourable circuits for the number 21 car, such as Sugo and Autopolis, Richard has every reason to feel confident of picking up the pace and improving upon last seasons results.
Richard Lyons:
“Coming away with points from Fuji gives us a great boast as this was I think, the first points haul we’ve had from this circuit.
We knew it was going to be a tough weekend as its not best suited for our car, but a great lap in qualifying got us P6 for the start.
The race was a little more difficult as it turned out to be warmer conditions than we anticipated so we had to run quite conservative in the first stint.
Our 2nd and 3rd stints were better with the latter seeing us run the same times as the leading cars.
Overall a solid result, and with Sugo coming up next we are feeling quite confident.”
