On the eve of what promises to be another epic season of GT competition with wheel-to-wheel action between some of the world’s most recognised marques, GT Asia Series promoter Motorsport Asia Limited have revealed that all six events of the 2016 championship will be broadcast live to an international audience of 346-million viewers.
Fox Sports and GT Asia are no strangers, the championship – which is entering its seventh season – has been a big fixture on the network since the very beginning, but with the changing landscape of world sport and the viewer’s desire to see sport as it happens, Motorsport Asia CEO David Sonenscher felt that GT Asia was ready to broadcast live.
“Fox Sports is the recognised leader in televised sports – certainly in Asia – so we worked very hard in the off-season to secure a deal which will see all of our events broadcast live throughout Asia to a market of more than 346 million viewers,” he confirmed.
“As part of the new live package, we’ll also have our the ‘voice’ of GT Asia – Jonathan Green – coming across from the USA to do the live show, so we’re really putting a lot of effort into the programming this year. Fox isn’t the only news on the broadcast front either and we will have some more exciting news about additional partnerships in the next few days. It’s an exciting time for the category!”
Fox Sports Asia is the official Asian station of Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Taiwan, Philippines, Indonesia and Hong Kong whilst affiliates include Star Sports in China and Korea.
The 2016 GT Asia Series will again be the most visible and competitive GT championship in Asia, with representatives from legendary marques like Porsche, Ferrari, Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley doing battle on some of the region’s best circuits.
Motorsport Asia will reveal the full details of the schedule for the 2016 season – which includes live streaming online – in the next few days.
The opening round of the 2016 GT Asia Series season begins with a two-day official pre-season test at Korea International Circuit in South Korea on 9-10 May, ahead of the opening round of the championship from 13-15 May.
