As Motorsport Asia Limited continues to evolve and invest in the growth of their categories ahead of the 2016 season, comes the announcement that former Director of Sponsorship Tarik Mokbel returns to the Malaysian-based operation as Commercial Manager.
“There have been a number of investments in our future since the close of the 2015 season,” David Sonenscher the CEO of Motorsport Asia confirmed. “We just recently announced that Rod Wilson would take on the role of Series Manager of the GT Asia Series, and we can now confirm that Tarik Mokbel will come back into the fold to concentrate on our commercial partnerships.
“We’ve had a past relationship with Tarik before his career took him in a slightly different direction, but we’d always worked well together and when I went looking last year for someone to help bolster our position in motorsport in Asia, he was the perfect candidate. Over recent years his experience has broadened significantly having been involved with some of the region’s major Golf Opens and also the ASEAN Football league, so he will have some great associations to draw on.”
From Mokbel’s perspective, a return to Motorsport Asia Limited [MAL] is a little like coming home..
“It’s amazing being back with the Motorsport Asia family again. The core team are the very people I worked with the first time I joined in 2004, testimony to the solid team David put together from the very start.
“After I left MAL in 2008, I moved onto A1GP in Singapore as Sponsorship GM assisting the series with all matters relating to event sponsorships in the Asian rounds and series partnerships from companies in Asia.
“In 2010, I joined WSG as Sales and Sponsorship Manager responsible for all sponsorship and business development for the Thailand Open, Indonesia Open and Singapore Open golf events and ASEAN AFF Suzuki Cup football tournament.
“I’m excited about just how much motorsport has matured over the last few years whilst at the same time still showing growth, diversity and increasing new possibilities, big reasons why Asia is still the de facto region of the world today.
“For 2016 we will be identifying solid business opportunities with GT Asia and TCR Asia and deliver on a number of key areas with our respective series and a number of our events. It will be an exciting year.”
