The final pole position of the 2015-2016 season goes to Algarve Pro Racing as Jamie Winslow in the #25 Ligier JSP2 went quickest round the track this afternoon here in Sepang.

After the two free practice sessions, qualifying got underway for the final round of the 2015-2016 season of the Asian Le Mans Series here in Sepang. Jamie Winslow repeated his feat from November’s visit to the track and took pole with a best time of 1:58.676, 0.097 seconds quicker than last time. Oliver Webb placed the #8 Race Performance Oreca 03R Judd in 2nd place on the grid with his best time of 1:59.175. Sean Gelael in the #3 Jagonya Ayam with Eurasia Oreca 03R Nissan will start from 3rd thanks to his best lap time of 1:59.298.

In LMP3, Team AAI scored their first class pole of the season, with Masataka Yanagida in the #89 ADESS 03 setting a best lap of 2:06.283. Their rivals in LMP3, the #1 DC Racing Ligier JSP3, couldn’t take part in qualifying due to a gearbox issue, which they are fixing for the race and will start from the back of the grid.

In GT, pole was set by Christopher Mies, joining the crew of the #5 Absolute Racing Audi R8 LMS 2016 this weekend, with a best lap time of 2:06.180. Close behind with a best time of 2:06.192 was Adderly Fong in the #6 Bentley Team Absolute Bentley Continental GT3, one of the two Bentley GT3s joining the event this weekend. This is the first time since their victory at Le Mans in 2003 that a Bentley has taken part in an ACO event. Third quickest in the GT class was Rob Bell in the #3 Clearwater Racing McLaren 650S GT3, who set a time of 2:06.571.

In the CN class, the #21 Avelon Formula Wolf Racing GB08 claimed the class pole, with Denis Lian at the wheel, going round the track in a time of 2:09.570. Due to engine issues, the #69 Atlantic Racing Team Wolf Racing GB08 couldn’t take part in today’s qualifying, but they are working hard to make it for the race tomorrow.

In GTAM, despite having some competition from newcomers #77 Team Starspeed Racing with their Lamborghini Huracan LP620-2 Super Trofeo, the crew of the #51 KCMG Porsche GT3 Cup succeeded in claiming their 4th class pole of the season, with Yuan Bo setting the car’s best time of 2:13.846.

See you tomorrow for the last race of the 2015-2016 Season of the Asian Le Mans Series, the 3 Hours of Malaysia, which is set to be quite a showdown, with three titles still to be settled: LMP2, GT and CN.

LMP2 – #25 Algarve Pro Racing Ligier JS P2 – Jamie Winslow: “The session went very well. The team did a fantastic job with the car. Pretty similar setup to when we were on pole back in November, just with a few fine tunes. The team deserves the credit for this; the car was fantastic. I did minimal laps in practice to try and help my co-drivers who have been doing a fantastic job all season. So we’re looking pretty good for the race. We’re starting on the front row and it’s all looking pretty positive.”

LMP3 – #89 Team AAI ADESS 03 – Masataka Yanagida: “I’m happy about this result. Also, my team usually has two cars, but because of the big crash during qualifying in Thailand, we’re only running this one. Also, as the Ligier is fixing a problem, I was alone out there. I’m happy with the result, but tomorrow I want to race against them.

CN – #21 Team Avelon Formula – Denis Lian: “We’ve had a pretty torrid start to the week. We’ve had to swap engines, the gearbox had to be rebuilt upright, we lost a wheel in Thailand. It didn’t start very well. So getting pole, kudos to the boys; they did a really great job. The car just felt great and made it all come together and made it easy to get the pole.”

GT – #5 Absolute Racing Audi R8 LMS 2016 – Christopher Mies: “I know the track quite well. I’ve done the twelve hours of Sepang the last two years and GT Asia. It’s a good start to the weekend. First time here in the Asian Le Mans Series for me, with the new Audi R8, so it’s gone quite well.”

GTAm – #51 KCMG Porsche GT3 Cup – Yuan Bo: “We had small issues in free practice with the brakes, but fixed it before qualifying. The team did a really good job and the car is perfect. We’ll be trying our best tomorrow when we have to fight against the #77 Lamborghini.”
