Challenges are for sportsmen and sportsmen enjoy challenges. Hence Enzo Ide, the promising West-Flanders based driver will not only be competing in the German round of the World Championship for GT cars, but also in the Blancpain Endurance Series, both to be held on the Nürburgring circuit. And so the number three in last year’s FIA GT3 European Championship will be climbing on board the Ferrari 458 Italia of the Italian AF Corse team.
These last few weeks and months the World GT calendar underwent quite a number of amendments, but the die has now been finally cast. The final rounds of the third year of the GT World Championship will take place this coming weekend on the German Nürburgring circuit, followed one week later on the British Donington circuit, where a few years back Ayrton Senna drove a memorable race. This weekend the World Championship will also receive the company of competitors in the Blancpain Endurance Series, the European endurance championship for GT cars. In addition to the two races of one hour in the World Championship, Enzo Ide will also be competing in a three-hour race on Sunday.
“My car is identical, namely a Ferrari 458 Italia from the AF Corse team, however my teammates will obviously be different”, Enzo Ide explained. “I’ll be competing with my regular teammate Francesco Castellacci in the World Championship, whereas my teammates in the Blancpain Endurance Series will be Jack Gerber and Marco Cioci, two of the three drivers I had already competed with in the 24 Hours of Spa, the major event of this brilliant endurance championship. Our ambition is to fight it out for a top place in our category, namely the Pro/Am Cup.”
Enzo Ide’s timetable this coming weekend in the German Eifel will be pretty hectic, with two races of one hour in the World Championship, a 3 hour race for the Blancpain Endurance Series not forgetting an additional 6 hours of training and qualifying sessions.
“It will all boil down to good planning, but I am competing for one and the same team, which should simplify matters. I’m already looking forward to it because this is a great challenge!”
