It has been a satisfying weekend for Joel Camathias at the Autodromo Marco Simoncelli in Misano Adriatico, during the sixth round of the Italian GT Championship: the Swiss driver has clinched an 11th and a 10th in the two scheduled races, a good result given the very high level of the series and the fact that the Porsche 911 R by Autorlando Sport shared with Mauro Calamia seems to have reached the ceiling of its development potential.
The Swiss pair has fought throughout the weekend with the weapons at hand, performing two nice races in the group right behind the leaders and finishing in the top ten in both instances. Unfortunately, the 9th position obtained in Race-1 became an 11th after an arguable post-race penalty.
Joel Camathias: “It has been a weekend characterized by great determination and good fights on the track, but there is little more to extract out of our Porsche 911 R at this stage, especially when the front-runners encounter no issues, like this time. Since qualifying, it was clear that we did not have the pace of the top guys. Still, with two strong races, we made it to the top ten in both instances. It’s a pity we were given the 25-second penalty after Race-1, for an alleged contact with the corvette in the second stint, while I was at the wheel. We lost two positions and I find the sanction excessive, but it doesn’t change much to the overall result. Now, we will try to finish the season on 18 October a Mugello showing the same determination and hopefully some positions ahead.”
