Patrick Kujala is the 2015 Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe Champion. The Bonaldi Motorsport driver won Race Two in Nürburgring and crowned as the new champion with still one round to go.
The 19-year old Finnish driver experienced a weekend to remember as he took his third double after those achieved in Monza and Silverstone. His closest rival today, Daniel Zampieri, did his best to spoil Kujala’s weekend by twice taking second place in his Antonelli Motorsport Car. His team-mate Roman Mavlanov (RUS) was also among the protagonists in the early stages before he handed the wheel to Zampieri.
Patric Niederhauser and Edoardo Liberati achieved a well-deserved P3 just ahead of their Raton Racing team mate Alberto Di Folco. The Team Lazarus pairing of Sergio Campana and Fabrizio Crestani also fought for top positions in the first laps before being forced to retire following a minor contact with Milos Pavlovic. The Serbian shared the wheel of the Sportec Motorsport car with the Italian Roberto Pampanini. Pavlovic was also later penalized with a drive-through for the contact.
Alberto Cerqui and Giacomo Barri managed P5 with Imperiale Racing ahead of the German Florian Spengler (Bonaldi Motorsport). It was bad luck though for Shinya Michimi, driving alongside his usual team mate Kei Cozzolino for Vincenzo Sospiri Racing. The Japanese was forced to retire at the very last lap while he was third overall.
It was yet another positive race for the Ecuadorian Sebastian Merchan who managed P7 and PRO-AM Class win ahead of Roberto Giannoni and the returning Gerhard Tweraser (Automobile Tricolore). The P3 in the PRO-AM Class went to Leipert Motorsport and drivers Mikko Eskelinen and Kelvin Snoeks.
The debuting Dutchman Jaap Bartels, along with the Italian Jacopo Faccioni, won the AM Class in yet another Vincenzo Sospiri Racing car. Jan Van Uytsel and Raf Vleugels (DVB Racing) won the Gallardo AM Cup Class.
The next round of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Europe will be held in Sebring (USA) in the same week and location as the World Finals scheduled for the 21/22 November weekend.
Driver quotes
Patrick Kujala #32 – Bonaldi Motorsport (Overall and PRO Class winner): “This was a perfect race. Differently from yesterday, today I pushed since the very beginning and my tires soon deteriorated. This was maybe not the right choice but granted me the win and my first career title.”
Sebastian Merchan #3 – Bonaldi Motorsport (PRO-AM Class winner): “It was a tough weekend as during the free practices on Friday I went out on the gravel. Moreover my last race was nine months ago as I was recovering from back pain. Yesterday I managed P2 and today P1. Not bad at all.”
Jaap Bartels #18 – Vincenzo Sospiri Racing (AM Class winner): “Winning in my debut is something extraordinary. I do really have to thank my team mate Jacopo Faccioni who ran the first stint, handing me a perfectly balanced car.”
Jan Van Uytsel #24 – DVB Racing (AMG class winner): “This was the best race of my life. A demanding weekend but one to remember with one podium and a P1 finish.”
