Erebus Motorsport has thrown its support behind a national anti-violence campaign by displaying the #StopTheViolence hashtag and a white rose on the team’s two V8 Supercars for this weekend’s Sandown 500.
In a joint initiative between the team and its commercial partners, regular sponsor branding on the doors and bonnet has been replaced by the #StopTheViolence hashtag and a white rose in a mark of respect after the tragic deaths of three mothers in the past week.
Two of the domestic violence incidents occurred on the Gold Coast not far from the Erebus Motorsport V8 Supercars workshop in Yatala, which is located between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Erebus Motorsport Owner Betty Klimenko explained the team’s support of the #StopTheViolence campaign was aimed at spreading the message that all forms of violence is simply unacceptable.
“What has occurred in the last few days has been tragic,’’ said Klimenko.
“We wanted to make a statement that all forms of violence is unacceptable, not just violence against women and children but all forms of violence and domestic violence.
“We are grateful that our partners were supportive of our decision to join the #StopTheViolence campaign and promote the message on the cars throughout the Sandown 500 weekend.”
The #StopTheViolence hashtag was displayed on the team’s two V8 Supercars during this afternoon’s final Practice session and will be also be run during tomorrow’s Qualifying races and Sunday’s main 500km endurance race.
Brothers Will and Alex Davison will again combine in the #9 Erebus Motorsport entry for this weekend’s Sandown 500, while rising stars Ash Walsh and Jack Le Brocq form a new co-driver pairing in the #4 entry.
