Tom Onslow-Cole is looking to tie-up his 24H Series title-win this weekend (5/6 September) at the penultimate round of the long-distance endurance championship, Barcelona 24 Hours.
OC, who races for RAM Racing in its blue and silver Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, has led the front-running A6 class championship since the 12 Hours of Mugello, the second event of the six-race season.
Following second place finishes in the first three rounds of the championship, including the highly competitive season-opener in Dubai, and a win at Paul Ricard in July, the Milltek Sport-sponsored driver has his sights set on the top step of the podium at the Circuit de Catalunya.
“We’ve made no secret of it all season that we race every race to win,” he commented. “This is probably the most confident I have ever gone into a 24-hour race. The team comes here fresh off the back of a 24-hour race win at Paul Ricard and I had a very strong Spa 24 Hours, where i was well inside the top 10 stint times. I know this track well, having raced and tested here a few times, and I feel that myself and the team have a very good understanding of the Mercedes SLS AMG GT3.
“Still, as always, we mustn’t be over confident. The competition is tough and anything can happen, especially in 24-hour racing.”
This weekend, OC is joined in the car by regular team-mates Thomas Jäger (DE) and Paul White (GB), plus a new addition to RAM Racing, Jeroen Bleekemolen (NL).
“For Jeroen [Bleekemolen] this will be his 38th 24-hour race, for me it’s my 8th. I’m sure there’s something I can learn from his extra 720 hours experience! I’m really looking forward to working alongside him,” OC continued.
“The 24H Series has been fantastic all year and I’m really hoping to secure the GT3 championship win this weekend for myself and for RAM Racing.”
Barcelona 24 Hours starts at 1200hrs local time on Saturday 5 September and will be live streamed on the 24H Series website: www.24hseries.com.
