The Kessel Racing car driven by Michael Broniszewski-Alessandro Bonacini-Micheal Lyons and Andrea Piccini will start from row number two amongst the numerous GT cars in the “PRO-AM” category! Andrea Piccini had already driven the fastest lap time of the day in his class on Thursday. He even fought right up to the last millimetre in the special session for the Super Pole. In the end that special starting place went to the Audi R8 from the Audi Sport Team WRT with Stippler-Muller-Ortelli, a mere 46 thousands of a second faster. Second came the McLaren from the Von Ryan Team with Van Gisbergen-Bell-Estre with only 17 thousands of a second ahead of the men from Kessel Racing. With the lap time set by Piccini, the Ferrari with number 11 gained the pole position in the “PRO-AM” class.
In the meantime the drivers of AM car number 111 – Stephen Earle-Liam Talbot-Marco Zanuttini and Marc Rostan – had a day off. They did not go onto the track today, but they did shout for their teammate from the box, supporting Piccini while he was setting his fastest lap time. Tomorrow the warm-up will start at 9,00 am, while the race itself will start at 4:30 pm.
TIZIANA BORGHI (Team Manager): “It’s really exciting having a car in row 2 in such a legendary race like the 24 Hours of Spa. This is the result of enormous work we started in Grancia, down to the smallest detail and then developed by our drivers on the track. Usually I don’t like to talk be too personal, but Andrea Piccini really excited us all when he drove his fast lap. We are one Team and we have to thank everyone for this result. Tomorrow we’ve got a race over 24 very long hours. It will be exciting with many unexpected moments and we want to be on top with both of our cars!”
