One of the most legendary teams in Spanish motor racing, Teo Martín Motorsport, is back to (serious) business after some twenty years. After dominating the scene in Spanish touring car and GT racing in the 80-90s, Teo Martín devoted his attention to his other automotive businesses. Now, for his come-back to racing, he has chosen the International GT Open, where he will be present with a stellar programme.
The squad has joined the McLaren family to enter a brand new 650S GT3 for a stellar Portuguese driver pair, composed of Álvaro Parente and Miguel Ramos. Conversations to close a deal for a second car are under-way. The team will be based in Madrid and cooperate closely for the development of the car.
Miguel Ramos (43) needs no presentation in the GT world and in the International GT Open, where he has been a runner-up in the last two editions, clinching 10 race wins in total. Álvaro Parente (30), from Porto like Ramos, is also an established GT star after having shone with formulae (F.3, FR 3.5 and GP2). He has episodically raced in the GT Open, taking 1 win in 2010.
Teo Martín commented: “I am very proud to start this new partnership with McLaren and happy that the we could build this programme in less than one month! We hope to repeat the successes we had in the past and to bring enjoyment to the fans.”
Andrew Kirkaldy, General Director at McLaren GT, stated: “We welcome Teo Martín in the McLaren family, and are proud to cooperate with a team with such a curriculum. The 650S GT3 has recently shown all its potential and we will work closely with Teo’s team to be competitive as quickly as possible in the GT Open, where McLaren clinched the GTS title in 2013.”
