Young Driver AMR wins World Cup in style

Young Driver AMR makes its 2014 season in the FIA World Endurance championship perfect at the seventh round in Bahrain. After the victory at the 24h of Le Mans in June, Young Driver AMR now claims the World Cup in the GTE-Am class and wins the championship in style. At the series penultimate round at Bahrain, Kristian Poulsen, David Heinemeier Hansson and Nicki Thiim drove to their fourth victory of the season in the Aston Martin Racing entered Young Driver AMR-Aston Martin Vantage GTE. The win secured Young Driver AMR, Poulsen and Heinemeier Hansson the World Cup title before the final round at Sao Paulo in Brazil in two weeks time.

The six-hour race in Bahrain went perfect for Young Driver AMR and was one of the strongest races of the team this season. Nicki Thiim went into the class lead after starting from Pole Position. He then handed the Aston Martin to Heinemeier Hansson for a double stint, during which he further increased the lead. Kristian Poulsen survived then a hit from a rivalling Ferrari during his double stint with only minor damage, before Thiim and Heinemeier Hansson completed the race with two single stints. Heinemeier Hansson crossed the finish line after six hours of racing one lap in front of the closest competitor and secured the victory and also the World Cup.

„A perfect race, a perfect day“, said Young Driver AMR´s Jan Struve after the race. „We won the World Cup, we won Le Mans and took further three race victories, we couldn’t ask for more. It was just a perfect season. Our drivers and the entire team did an amazing job today. It was quite visible for everyone how much everybody wanted to secure to championship today. It’s a great feeling to travel now to Interlagos with the championship already secured. But even if we won the championship now, we will attack in Brazil again, as we would like to conclude our championship winning season with another win.”

“The championship means a lot to us, the team, David and Nicki and also Richie Stanaway, who raced with us three times this season, did a perfect job. To win Le Mans and now the World Cup in our second year in this championship is fantastic”, was Poulsen delighted.

“Le Mans victory, World Cup title and now our fourth victory this season is really perfect”, said Heinemeier Hansson. “Our car was absolutely spot on today, we hit the set-up just right and made the tires last, what was really the key today. It’s just amazing to be with Aston Martin Racing and with Young Driver AMR. It’s nice to travel now to Brazil with zero pressure and just the drive the race.”

“It’s fantastic to be a part of this team and to win here for the fourth time of the season”, Nicki Thiim said, he won in all four races, he competed with Young Driver AMR this season. “After Le Mans, we really wanted this championship and finally we are there and my two teammates are world champions”.
