rancesco Sini and Tomas Enge win the final, highly competitive round of the Italian GT Championship in the SaReNi Camaro GT3 racing under the Solaris Motorsport banner

The debut weekend in the Italian GT Championship for the Reiter Engineering developed SaReNi Camaro GT3 could hardly have ended better. Francesco Sini and Tomas Enge started Sunday’s race from the front row under the Solaris Motorsport banner. Fifth place the day before had impressively demonstrated the potential of the ‘Bavarian Muscle Car’ around the high-speed track at Monza, so team’s hopes were high.

And they would not be disappointed. Start driver Tomas Enge used the Camaro’s tremendous V8 power on the long straight leading to the first chicane to plant the car in a promising position. At the end of lap one, the Reiter Engineering driver then led the competitive field. With a free road ahead, Enge stormed away from the competition. After only four laps the stop watches displayed an advantage of 7.1 seconds. However, this was no reason to ease off. Tomas Enge extended the lead lap by lap and was by far the fastest man on track. His lap times in the Camaro GT3 fielded by Solaris Motorsport were sometimes 2 seconds a lap quicker than the chasing pack. When the pit stop window opened for the mandatory driver change, the advantage on the clock was already more than 21 seconds.

With 20 minutes still to drive, Enge came into the pits and handed the car over to Francesco Sini. The Italian resumed the unchallenged lead in the race, and was able to manage the gap. Sini was not eve put off his stride when lapping the slower GT Cup cars. Thanks to the Camaro power plant’s ample torque curve, he raced more easily through the traffic than his rivals.

Francesco Sini drove consistently to the end of his stint and won the final race of the Italian GT Championship at Monza by almost eight seconds after 27 laps. An impressive demonstration by the SaReNi Camaro GT3 and taste of things to come for the 2015 season!

“I’m surprised just how high the level is in the Italian GT Championship,” admitted Hans Reiter after the test race at Monza. “The fastest qualifying time was over four tenths faster than in the Blancpain Endurance Series, which raced here on the same Pirelli tyres. It goes without saying that we are also proud to have broken the GT3 lap record with two different cars built by us. Both the Gallardo FL2 GT3 as well as the SaReNi Camaro GT3 were on the front row today and were separated by only 6 hundredths of a second! Unfortunately, the Gallardo had an accident at the start. Otherwise it could have been a fantastic fight.”
