Announcing the arrival of Marc Drumwright co-piloting with Martin Plowman, BAR1 Motorsports returns to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas, for the TUDOR United Sports Car Series’ Lone Star Le Mans. As part of BAR1’s two car effort in the PC division, Drumwright and Plowman will partner driving the SRA Southwest Realty Advisors No. 87 PC car. The race will air live on FOX Sports 2 at 12:30PM EDT, Saturday, September 20th.
“I just want to thank BAR1 Motorsports for the opportunity to make my debut with the team at COTA,” said Marc. “Our recent PC test at Road Atlanta went well with the help of the professionals Brian has put together & the coaching of Martin Plowman. Coming from GT, the PC is new to me but I think gains were made in the right direction. I’m ready for the COTA challenge and excited to raise the bar for myself. Thank you to Brian and the whole team for allowing me to be a part of their racing family & having faith in me for the future.”
Martin Plowman shares his enthusiasm for returning to the BAR1 fold.
“I couldn’t be happier to return to the United Tudor series with BAR1 Motorsports at COTA,” added Martin. “It’s a great team atmosphere with a lot of talented people on the pit wall. I’m thankful to Brian and the whole team for continuing to show their faith in me. I’m excited to carry on the strong form the team and I have shown and continue to fight for podiums with an eye on getting that big win soon.”
Announced earlier this month, former Ferrari Challenge champion and ALMS LMPC driver Tom Papadopoulos is set to join Johnny Mowlem in the Autosport Design No. 88 BAR1 Motorsports PC race car as their Silver driver through the remainder of the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship 2014 season.
“I’m thrilled to be back racing again.” said Tom. “The timing is right and it will be good to dust the helmet off and get back out on the track competitively. The tracks we will race at are fantastic, true driver circuits, so I’m very much looking forward to that.”
Alongside Tom in the role of BAR1′s Pro-driver, will be current European Le Mans Series champion Johnny Mowlem. Johnny will complete the season with Tom.
“I am delighted to join a great team like BAR1 Motorsports,” added Mowlem. “I’m even more delighted to be driving with Tom as my co-driver. He is a fantastic team-mate and driver. We always have a lot of fun together and hopefully we can have success together as well!”
BAR1 Motorsport team owner Brian Alder is very pleased to complete these driver signings.
“We are excited to welcome Marc, Johnny and Tom to the team,” said Alder. “Of course, Johnny [Mowlem] needs no introduction to former ALMS fans. He’s a top notch driver possessing all the skills to get the job done. Tom [Papadopoulos] comes highly recommended as a Silver driver. Marc [Drumwright], the newest member of our team, will have his driving debut in COTA. I got to work with him at the test in Atlanta. He made a lot of progress and impressed me with his courage to overcome the challenge of driving a high downforce car on the limits. I know he’s in good hands with Martin [Plowman] as his co-driver… I think we’re all ready for COTA!”".
