After a long summer break, the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) picks up momentum again this weekend (19-20 September) at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin/Texas, and 8Star Motorsports will be hoping to claim the LMGTE-Am victory.
Opened in 2012, the Circuit of the Americas is the USA’s most modern race track and its spectacular layout draws inspiration from many of motorsport’s iconic corners, such as Silverstone’s fast, sweeping Maggots and Becketts complex.
The Florida-based team currently lies fifth in the LMGTE-Am Teams’ standings and will be looking to get its season back on track in the second third of the season.
Paolo Ruberti and Gianluca Roda will be joined by 2014 24 Hours of Daytona GT class champion, Jeff Segal. The driving trio is targeting its first top-three finish of the season and has high hopes of breaking its podium finishes duck after narrowly missing out on a place on the winners’ rostrum at the Austin circuit in 2013.
“Our goal never changes and we work hard to win,” said Enzo Potolicchio. “We had some mechanical issues during the first two races of the season and have worked hard with Michelloto to solve them. At Le Mans we had a competitive car and tire punctures took us out of contention for a podium, but we still managed to finish fourth in class.
“The 8Star Motorsports Ferrari 458 Italia GT2 should be good at Austin and we are really happy to have American driver Jeff Segal join us for Austin, as he brings speed and GT experience to give us the best opportunity at Circuit of the Americas.”
