The weekend in Monza ended with a disappointment for Kessel Racing at this season’s first round of the Blancpain Endurance Series. Despite the good start, with the black car raced by Broniszewski/Petrobelli/Bonacini in the front row after having set the fastest lap time in the “PRO-AM” class qualifying, and the great performance by Earle/Kremer, driving the “GENTLEMEN” car, two retirements in just over an hour signed the race. The “PRO-AM” car, in third position after the start of the race, fought a fierce duel with the Bentley from “M-Sport Bentley” driven by Meyrick/Smith/Kane, while the cars touched several times. A broken radiator and the following loss of cooling liquid meant that the car had to retire right after the first pit stop, when the drives had been changed. The same happened to the car in the Gentlemen category: after a great start into the race the car had to stop after they hadn’t carried out a drive through penalty, imposed by the race control after a supposed contact with another car on the track. A problem with the radio connection to the box and the presence of many other cars fighting for better positions, Earle missed the signs at the box regarding the penalty. Automatically, after three more laps, car number 111 was declared “out of race” The unlucky weekend in Monza has already been filed and for Kessel Racing it’s already time to think about the ELMS debut, next weekend on the famous track in Silverstone.
