The final spurt of the season 2013 at the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) starts this Friday and Saturday (8th/9th of November) for the German sports car pilot Stefan Mücke. The Aston Martin works driver from Berlin, who shares the cockpit of the Vantage GTE V8 with his team colleague Darren Turner (Great Britain), has big plans for the six hour race this Saturday in the Chinese metropolis Shanghai in the GTE Pro class: „We want to win this race and reclaim the lead of the world championship rankings of the GT drivers.“ After the second season win lastly in Fuji (Japan, 20th of October), where they only got half of the points after the race abortion due to the heavy rain, the 31 year old and Turner on rank three are only 8.5 points behind the leading Italians Gianmaria Bruni and Giancarlo Fisichella in the Ferrari.
And the Berlin travels to China with good memories. One year ago he scored the first WEC win in the GTE Pro class ever together with Turner at the season finale 2012 in Shanghai. „That has been a great season closing last year on a track that is very good for the Vantage“, Stefan Mücke explained. „Now we will try to finish at the front of the field again. We want to win the manufacturer championship with Aston Martin and we want to score the title of the GT drivers in the end. We should reach the maximum of points in Shanghai to accomplish that, but at last we should finish ahead the frontrunners.“
After his start at this year’s last race of the GT Asia Series in Macau (15th to 17th of November), where the team of his father Peter Mücke – kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport – will be on track at the Formula 3 Grand Prix, the season finale of the WEC is scheduled for the 30th of November in Bahrain. „We want to start in Bahrain as frontrunners and secure the world championship“, the Berlin said.
