Andrea Montermini, Villorba Corse and their Ferrari 458 GT2 clinched the 2013 International GT Open title at Monza in the seventh round of the series. Over the weekend of 5-6 October the former F1 driver from Modena was partnered by a perfect Davide Rigon, who, on Sunday, dominated the first part of race-2. After 11 podiums out of 13 races, a third place in the Super GT class (12th overall) has been enough to celebrate the crown, claimed also with a thrilling overtaking performed by Montermini on the Corvette which was the major title contender. For the new GT Open champion this is the second overall title in the series (he won the first on the Ferrari F430 in 2008).
“First of all - says Raimondo Amadio, Team Principal – this fantastic result represents a prize to the whole team and to our job in a very difficult season where we had to fight on and off race track. We have enjoyed working with drivers, starting from Andrea, who have proved their talent and passion once again, alongside all the guys from Villorba Corse. A special thanks goes to Ferrari and Michelotto for a perfect GT car and all the technical support and to our commercial parters.”
“I was chasing this result since the beginning of the season – said Montermini surrounded by the fans at his home race -; Villorba Corse has developed an incredibly fast 458 allowing us to immediately take control of the series. The harmony with the whole team, with Filippi and then in Spa and here in Monza with Rigon was perfect and they both have confirmed to be great drivers. A personal thank goes to Raimondo Amadio: intelligent, forward-looking and ambitious team manager of an extraordinary squad.”
