SRO Motorsports Group has today announced the enticing provisional calendar for the 2014 Avon Tyres British GT Championship, featuring visits to six of the best circuits in the UK and a popular return to Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.

Maintaining the mixed-format approach that has worked well in the past four seasons, British GT will aim to build on 2013, its best season to date, which has seen average grids of thirty four cars competing to become the 2013 British GT Champion.

The 2014 season will begin with the now traditional Easter Weekend meeting at Cheshire’s Oulton Park (19-21 April), the fast and flowing woodland circuit that has kicked off British GT throughout its renaissance in recent years.

Next the British GT crews will head to Corby’s super-fast Rockingham Motor Speedway (03-04 May) to again do battle on the ISSLC layout; a weekend, which has generated some interesting races in seasons past.

Round three sees British GT make the trip to the home of British motor racing, Silverstone (date TBC) and this will again be host to the longest race of the year, a three-hour endurance format.

With the British summertime in full swing, British GT makes a visit to Norfolk and the Snetterton 300 circuit (21-22 June) for round four of the season, where championship hopefuls begin to emerge.

The tail end of the calendar is mighty impressive taking in three former Grand Prix circuits. A return to the Spa-Francorchamps circuit (11-13 July) has been planned for the series, after two years away. Drivers, teams and fans alike have been keen for the top GT series in the UK to make the Ardennes circuit part of the 2014 calendar.

Kent’s Brands Hatch GP circuit (30-31 August) is next up and in 2014 will have the honour of hosting the penultimate race of the season. The leafy GP circuit at Brands Hatch has seen lots of action in past years, and is home to the closest finish in British GT history.

The 2014 season wraps up at the mighty Leicestershire circuit, Donington Park (13-14 September), for the third year in succession. The undulating track is a crowd favourite and a fitting host to the season finale.

Full formats will be confirmed in due course, with the Silverstone date to be announced in the coming weeks.

Quotes

Benjamin Franassovici, Championship Manager, British GT

“We’re very happy to share our calendar with drivers before the end of the 2013 season. A lot of work has gone into arranging dates and I think we have a good-looking calendar; the return of Spa is something I know a lot of drivers and teams wanted to see. We had a fun trip to the Nürburgring in 2012 and just a few weeks ago enjoyed our first visit to the Circuit Park Zandvoort, but a return to Spa was always going to happen.”
