The final round of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) will take place this weekend in France at the Paul Ricard circuit in southern France. Three teams are fighting for the title, two of which have chosen to compete on Dunlop tyres.
Leading the standings are reigning champions Thiriet by TDS Racing, with drivers Pierre Thiriet and Mathias Beche hoping to repeat their 2012 win at the track to retain the title. To become 2013 champions they need to finish ahead of rivals Signatech Alpine who are currently on equal points. The other Dunlop squad with a mathematical chance of winning the series is Jota Sport, but with 25 points for a win and an 18 point gap to the pair ahead, the team would need misfortune for both of the top two to be victorious.
Dunlop will be taking the medium and hard compound tyres for the relatively aggressive track.
Sebastien Montet, Manager – Race Design & Development: “This is a very important weekend for our teams. Although two of our seven teams can win the title the others will be looking for a good result to end their season so the competition will be high. The track is quite hard on tyres because of the high speed straight that leads into a fast right hand corner which puts a lot of strain on the front left tyre. We’re confident our compounds are up to the job because of pre-season testing and even if there is more heat this weekend than in March the same tyres won the World Endurance Championship race in Texas last weekend with a track temperature of 50 degrees.”
