2012 Champions Gareth Evans and Mike Donovan resumed their winning ways in Barcelona as the Group C Racing Series began its 2013 Series at the Catalunya Classic Revival.
In warm and dry conditions Evans took the opening 30 minute race on Sunday morning from pole in the Mercedes C11, beating home his nearest C1 rival, the Porsche 962 of Hervé Regout, by 21 seconds. The 962C of Henrik Lindberg was third.
Donovan also began the first race from pole in his Spice SE88C and went on to take the C2 win second overall, holding off a spirited attack from the Spice SE86 of Aaron Scott by just half a second.

A fire that destroyed Peter Garrod’s Intrepid on it’s first outing, ensured a lengthy Safety Car period at the start of Race 2 on Sunday afternoon & resulted in a closer race; Evans again taking the chequered flag first in the C11, but with the Nissan R90 CK of Steve Tandy in close attendance throughout. The yellow Nissan finished just six seconds adrift in second, while third in C1 went to the Lancia LC2 of Rupert Clevely.
Scott took the C2 victory in second place overall in the Tommy Dreelan-owned #170 Spice, while Mike Donovan’s Spice suffered a retirement after five laps. Dreelan, meanwhile, was racing his newly-acquired Leyton House Porsche 962 for the first time at Barcelona, ending up with two fourth-placed finishes in C1.

The series now moves on to the Donington Historic Festival on May 3rd-5th, where a larger entry is anticipated.
