After participating several times in the French Porsche Carrera Cup, with a double victory in the Grand Prix de Pau in 2012, Sébastien Loeb is getting ready to take on a new challenge. He announced this morning on his Facebook page that he will compete in two rounds of the Porsche Supercup : Barcelona (May 10-12) and Monaco (May 23-26), both opening races for the F1 circuit. For the occasion, the multiple World Rally champion will drive a new Porsche 911 GT3 Cup type 991.
« It’s real racing! »
Sébastien Loeb is mult-discipline racer and is proving it again in 2013 : Rallying with Citroën Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team, GT with Sébastien Loeb Racing, Pikes Peak with a Peugeot 208 T16 PP and now Porsche Supercup. It’s the Alsacian’s willingness to take on new challenges which motivated him. « Racing in this championship is a real challenge. Almost impossible » he admits. « I always enjoyed my experiences in French Porsche Carrera Cup. It’s real racing ! Everbody has the same equipment and you have to fight to get to the front. They are always hotly contested events, with great battles. Porsche Supercup is another step above : I’ll be racing alongside specialists with whom it will be difficult to rival. I know Barcelona a little, but I’ve never driven at Monaco. It’s also this discovering that’s seductive. »
« Enjoy myself… »
After driving his first laps in a Porsche 911 Cup during a test session scheduled for this week, Sébastien Loeb will use these two races to refine his circuit experience. « I want to drive as much as possible on circuits and learn as much as I can. » he explains. « Without a doubt, they will be two very enriching races, in that I’ll be in the middle of a grid that will be animated and racy. It’s also an opportunity to enjoy myself. Besides the driving, these are fun events since they take place alongside F1 weekends. There will be the pleasure of racing, but also the pleasure of experiencing the two Grand Prix, including Monaco, which is always special. »
Sébastien Loeb participated in the French Porsche Carrera Cup in 2008 at Albi, then again in 2011 at Circuit Paul Ricard and in 2012 at Pau. He will be making his debut in Porsche Supercup with the new 911 GT3 Cup which he will be testing in the coming days.
