G-Drive Racing, which is run by the Delta-ADR squad, will be running two cars in the ultra-competitive LMP2 class at this year’s Le Mans 24 Hour race and has today officially announced that team manager Simon Dowson has called upon James Walker to fill the reserve driver role at this year’s event. This means James will return to Le Mans for the second year running, after racing for the JMW Motorsport squad in the Factory Dunlop Ferrari 458 Italia last year.
Currently competing in the 2013 World Endurance Championship (WEC) for G-Drive Racing, James Walker is challenging for the World title after taking victory at the first round at Silverstone in April.
His Le Mans drive starts at the official Le Mans test on Sunday 9th June, which will see James do some important test work ahead of the race weekend. With Delta-ADR fielding a few Le Mans rookies this year, James’ experience of the car and circuit will be vital.
Walker will return to Le Mans on 19th June for race preparation and be on standby during the race should he be needed. He will also be making sure that the less experienced drivers are able to get up to speed as quickly as possible in the hope of success.
James is grateful for the opportunity to race at Le Mans again this year; “I have to say a huge thank you to Simon and everyone at G-Drive Delta-ADR for including me in their driver line up. Le Mans 24 Hours is one of the biggest sporting events on the planet. I had my first taste of it in 2012 with Ferrari and I was blown away by what I experienced.”
“To get the opportunity to drive the Oreca Nissan LMP2 car around the historic circuit will be fantastic. I’ll be looking out for all the Jersey flags during the race weekend as there are a large number of race fans on the island that make the annual trip”.
James’ next WEC round will be in Brazil at the Interlagos circuit on 31st August. The Championship then visits the USA, Japan, China and Bahrain.
