Last weekend the second run of the Blancpain Endurance Series took place on the British tradition track of Silverstone. Philipp Eng, missing trough a scheduling conflict with the Porsche Carrera Cup, was replaced by the young Argentinean MRS Supercup driver Esteban Gini. Besides Gini, the US American Rodin Younessi and the Brazilian Carlos Kray were sharing, like at the first run in Monza, the work behind the steering wheel of the MRS McLaren MP4-12C GT3.
After the strong start of the season in Monza, where Philipp Eng led the field of the dream sport cars over a long distance in the first one hour, the goal was to collect more points in the Pro/Am championship. While Carlos Kray and Rodin Younessi already had experience with the handling of the fast McLaren, the MRS Supercup driver, Esteban Gini, had to chum up with the track as well as with the British sport car. Despite of a good lap time, which was only 1,6 seconds behind the pole time, Gini had to be satisfied with the 37th starting place in the field of 57 super sport cars. What doesn’t sound quit well on the first time, but is also the proof of the incredible tight competition in the Blancpain Endurance Series.
The start of the race on Sunday was taken over by the US American, who after close an hour came to the regular pit stop and passed over to Carlos Kray. The final stint should be driven by Esteban Gini, but just after the pit stop he had to get a new tire after a puncture. Despite of this incident and some hard duels the MRS McLaren crossed the start finish line as 41st out of 57 cars and was valued as 17th in the Pro/Am class.
Iris Dorr (team leader): „The weekend was not quite easy for us; due to the missing experience on the car and on the very challenging race track in Silverstone of Eng replacement Esteban Gini. In contrast to this and considering of the tire damage we can live well with the result. It was a pleasant to see how our drivers were growing continuously over the whole weekend. That gives us hope for the next race, where we probably get a second McLaren on the start. Thank you to the whole team, the guys did an amazing job over the weekend.”
