Building on the team’s highly successful American Le Mans Series Prototype Challenge program, BAR1 Motorsports announced today their working partnership with AutoMaxUSA.com to enter The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Championship Powered by Mazda.

BAR1 Motorsports will debut the new spec L2 car June 9th at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio for the Diamond Cellar Classic, June 14-16. This will be the first new spec L2 car to entered and raced in the series since the 2013 rule change. The car will be driven by team owner, Brian Alder and sponsored by AutoMaxUSA.com, Premier Graphics and OMP.

Alder has experience in all facets of sports car racing, though this will be his first time participating as a driver.

“We have a break in the American Le Mans schedule during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With Mid-Ohio being our home track, I saw this as an opportunity to showcase our new Lites program and car. We are seeking drivers to fill seats for the remainder of the 2013 Prototype Lites season, and bring someone a L2 Championship. So far I’ve been a mechanic, crew chief, engineer, and team manager, the only thing i haven’t done is been a professional driver. With this experience I will now have gone full circle. I think the experience will help me understand and know what our drivers are experiencing and feeling. Ultimately this will make me a better team owner and help prepare the team for our goal of a multi-car Lites program in 2014.”

The Cooper Tires Prototype Lites powered by Mazda race is at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the Diamond Cellar Classic, June 14-16.

BAR1 Motorsports’ next round of the American Le Mans Series presented by Tequila Patrón is the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix. The race, from Lime Rock Park, is set for 3 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 6 with live coverage on ESPN2 and ESPN3.
