“Hello Endurance Info ! Since I wrote last month, I have been very busy, mostly training and coaching. I also spent some time with my family in Newcastle. I take the opportunity to speak a little about this city. This is in the North East of England, so it is very cold at this time of year. It’s a city I love because I grew up there but it also has a great character, atmosphere and some beautiful buildings in the city centre. I have the black and white stripes of the football team on my helmet. (I know that one of E-I journalist has been to watch his team, Marseille, play there. And they won….they must have cheated
“Last week, I got to drive for the first time this season. I tested for JMW at the Dunlop Tyre test in Estoril. Gimmi has now been confirmed as my team mate for Le Mans Series and he was there also. We had two days of warm weather and got some good test work done. About the car, it was a Ferrari in an updated ‘08 specification but not a ’09 engine or rear wing. We ran to the new regulations with an extra 5mm ride height. Dunlop had several new compound and construction tyres to test so both Gimmi and I had two days hard work! Dunlop will now look at the data and our comments. Hopefully they will be able to produce a better tyre for the first LMS race in Barcelona.
“We shared to test with BMW, it was interesting to see the car on track. It looks fantastic. It was not far off our times and was very consistent over a long run. This will definitely be a threat towards the end of the season and into 2010.
“I am now travelling to Guadix today (22nd) for a three day test with CRS. I’m very much looking forward to this. We learned a lot last year and had some good results considering it was the team’s first year. This season however, we must perform better and work hard if we want to beat AF Corse.
“I can also tell you that I will be driving at Sebring and PLM in the 007 Aston Martin Vantage GT2 with Drayson Racing. This is a good opportunity to drive for another manufacturer and prove I can do a good job in any car. AMR have developed the car over the past year so it will be interesting to see if we can be competitive. I will drive with Paul Drayson and Jonny Cocker. Both have good experience of the car and circuit. If we can stay out of trouble and have some luck I think we could be on the podium.
“Ok, that’s all for now…”
