Since the FLM09 was on display at the Birmingham Motorshow and the discovery sessions held in the past few weeks, the car keeps on attracting more and more interest!
After a start to the year that was full of exciting news, Formula Le Mans has moved up to the next level, and the teams are unveiling their plans one after the other. Following in the footsteps of Hope PoleVision Racing, the first squad to buy the FLM09, six other teams have confirmed their entry for the new Endurance single-make formula. Like the Swiss team, DAMS, Brookspeed International Motorsport, Boutsen Energy Racing, West-Tec Team, Two Racing and IRS will each enter two cars for the championship.
So the Formula Le Mans Cup can already count on fourteen cars from the four corners of Europe. These teams will receive their cars in the coming weeks as Hugues de Chaunac confirms: “chassis assembly is going ahead according to plan. Ten Formula Le Mans will be available in early March, after which four FLM09s will be assembled each week.”
After several discussions with the future players in the series, ORECA and the ACO have taken several decisions to be even more in tune with the low-cost philosophy of the championship. The main innovation is that the teams can now “hire the prototype throughout the season”.
Several more teams should come to swell the ranks in the near future. More than eighty drivers/teams have made contact with the organisers, and potential clients have had the opportunity to sample the car (10th and 26th February). “As in the previous sessions they unanimously praised the FLM09′s qualities,” states Hugues de Chaunac. “Even Tiago Monteiro who tested the car was impressed. It’s yet more proof that we’ve designed exactly the right machine. A great season’s in perspective with, as we expected, teams from many different horizons.”
The start of the championship is drawing closer and closer with the first official test session on April 30 on the Le Mans Bugatti circuit. The kick-off will be given at Spa on May 8-10 before the big rendezvous, where the competitors will race as curtain raiser to the Le Mans 24 Hours! Three further rounds will be held in the Le Mans Series context (Algarve, Nürburgring and Silverstone). The Formula Le Mans Cup will end with a 3-hour endurance race on a circuit to be announced in the near future.
