After serving their apprenticeship last year, Karim and Claude-Yves will again share the midnight blue Zytek 07S carrying the number 41 and the Swiss cross.
For their 2009 campaign, they will be joined by experienced endurance driver, Philipp Peter, who finished third in the 2002 Le Mans 24 Hours in an Audi R8 and scored a victory in the 2003 Sebring 12 Hours.
The Austrian had his first taste of the car during a private test session on the Magny-Cours circuit in mid-March. It was a big success and all three decided to pursue their collaboration for the whole of the 2009 season consisting of five 1000-km races.
“After two years in FIA-GT, I’m really delighted to be back at the wheel of a prototype. The Zytek is a very pleasant car to drive and easy to set up,” says an enthusiastic Philipp Peter. “In the team, drivers and engineers all have a very professional approach and they’re driven by a single motivating – to progress. As for the ambience it’s just like that of a big family.”
Renate Ojjeh, who is in charge of overall coordination in the GAC Racing Team, is also very satisfied. “I’m really delighted that Philipp has joined our team. Beneath his calm appearance he’s a very quick driver. His in-depth experience of motor racing will be a big help to us.”
After the first free practice session held yesterday (Friday) that kicked off the Barcelona 1000-km meeting, the GAC Racing Team set the fifth-quickest time in LM P2 after topping the time sheets at one point. This is a very encouraging result for the whole squad and bodes well for the race on Sunday.
