After Saturday’s qualifying session, the GAC Racing Team’s Zytek 07S was in sixth place in LM P2. Only Sunday morning, Philipp Peter did the first 2 stints and put on a great performance moving up from sixth to third. “Under braking for the first corner another car thumped me up the rear but luckily without damage to the car. Thanks to a good strategy by the team when the safety car came out, I found myself in fourth place with a full tank and four new tyres.”

Philipp then handed over to Claude-Yves Gosselin, and at that moment the no. 41 GAC Racing Team’s Zytek 07S was in third place in LM P2 with 4 laps in hand over its nearest rivals.

When Claude-Yves began his second stint he was held up by a GT1 that was slower than his prototype. “I found myself stuck behind a Saleen. Despite the blue flags waved by the marshals the driver wouldn’t let me past. In the chicane he pulled over on top of me and we hit each other hard. His wheel damaged the right-hand front side of my car. Luckily, I was able to make it back to the pits for repairs.”

The team did a fantastic job and replaced the splitter, the front bonnet as well as part of the suspension and braking system. But the hopes of a rostrum finish that had blossomed at the start had faded.

Karim Ojjeh went back out more fired up than ever with the aim of finishing eighth. “I concentrated on lapping consistently and we saw the flag in eighth place giving us a point in the championship chase. It’s a pity to finish in this position, as we were looking good for the rostrum. This year, the field in LM P2 is of a very high quality and I hope that we’ll have another opportunity to step up on to the podium.”
