After winning the Team Championship in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany in the 2008 season, Porsche Juniors Marco Holzer (Bobingen) and Martin Ragginger (Austria) are now entering the FIA GT Championship. Holzer (20) is driving a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR for the Belgian ProSpeed Competition Team, Ragginger (21) is at the wheel of a GT3 RSR raced by BMS Scuderia Italia.
“We are so convinced of the driving potential of both Junior Drivers that we have now opened up the door for their entry into international GT sport“, states Porsche’s Motorsport Director Hartmut Kristen. “Both drivers have proven their skill in the Carrera Cup and in various long-distance races. Now they should continue their careers as professional racing drivers on an even higher level in an even faster and more complex car.“ Marco Holzer is sharing the cockpit with Canadian-born Chinese driver Darryl O’Young, Martin Ragginger is taking turns at the wheel with Luigi Lucchini (Italy).
Holzer and Ragginger will be entering their first race for the FIA GT Championship on 3 May in Silverstone at the wheel of their GT2 race car with engine output of approximately 450 bhp. “I’m really proud that Porsche is allowing me to race in the FIA GT Series in my second year as a Junior Driver“, says Marco Holzer. “I’ve already driven the 911 GT3 RSR a couple of times and I can really handle the car“, adds Martin Ragginger.
UPS, Porsche’s partner for many years, will not be continuing their activity with the Junior Team and there is no successor sponsoring a racing team in the Carrera Cup Germany. “I would like to thank UPS for our great cooperation in the last twelve years“, states Kristen. “Together we have given many talents the opportunity to become world-class drivers. And I am sure that Holzer and Ragginger, who we picked together with UPS among many candidates, will be successful in GT sport.“
