First qualifying for the 77th edition of the 24 hours of Le Mans is over – and everyone in the Austrian Jetalliance Racing team is satisfied: Alex Müller in the Jetalliance Aston Martin DBR9 set the third fastest time in the GT1 class in 3:56.126 minutes. The two factory Corvettes of Jan Magnussen and Olivier Beretta are in front.
Earlier, both team owner Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer and Thomas Gruber had practised long runs for tomorrow’s race.
A night qualifying session is still on today’s agenda, but experience shows that there should be no further time improvements. Which would mean that Jetalliance Racing will start the 24h classic from third spot on the GT1 grid tomorrow.
Team owner Lukas Lichtner-Hoyer: “We probably learned the hardest way in yesterday’s free practice session. First time in Le Mans – and immediate rain. But it has been good preparation. Our Aston Martin will get a new engine after night qualifying – then things can really get started, we’re all very much looking forward to the race.”
Thomas Gruber: “Alex’s fast lap was very good, now we’re going to try and see if it’s possible to run triple stints. Things are going well at the moment, our performance is constantly improving.”
