Racing in heavy showers which driver Michael Krumm likened to “driving on rivers”, the Nissan R35 GT-R placed 9th in round 3, FIA GT1 at Oschersleben on 21 June.

Intensive testing at the Algarve gave Krumm the knowledge to push the car to the edge of its current development limits in appalling conditions and secure a very credible 10th on the grid. Co-driver Darren Turner took similar advantage of the recent tests and recorded the 6th-fastest time during warm-up.

Nigel Stepney, Team Principal, said, “The development is now showing progress as we begin to strengthen our relationship with our Nismo partners.” Commenting on experimental set-ups, Stepney paid tribute to Krumm and Turner: “Their feedback is up there with the best and has made a real contribution to our developmental bank. But it’s their skill and courage in such difficult conditions that keeps on amazing me.”

Back at Gigawave MotorSport’s headquarters in Earls Colne, Essex, Gigawave chairman Henry Barczynski MM announced after the race debrief that the team felt sufficiently confident to take the R35 to the 24 Hours of Spa, 25/26 July. Referring to Car No 10, the Aston Martin DBR9 which placed a spectacular 3rd at the same event last season, Barczynski commented: “We’ve taken an untested car and developed and proved it before in endurance racing, and with good support and strong team co-operation the Nismo partnership could help us maintain our record.”
