Former British GT Championship-winning team, Barwell Motorsport, will be entering the Total 24 Hours of Spa on July 25/26 with an Aston Martin DBRS9 GT3. This is the same car that Barwell runs in the Belgian GT Championship, which has taken a hat-trick of pole positions in this series at Spa already this year.
The DBRS9 will be campaigned in the G3 Class by its Belgian owner/driver Eddy Renard as well as very experienced Belgian pilots, ex-F3000 driver, Jeffrey van Hooydonck, and Belgian TV celebrity, Koen Wauters, – who are currently leading the Belgian GT Championship. The fourth driver will be young up-and-coming Belgian Touring Car Series (BTCS) front-runner, Julien Schroyen.
Barwell has previously contested the classic Belgian race in 1999 and 2000, when it was a production touring car event, finishing 12th overall in ’99 with a Honda Integra Type R.
“We have already proved that the DBRS9 is an extremely quick car around Spa,” comments Barwell MD, Mark Lemmer, “and are confident of being in the hunt for the GT3 pole. Finishing the 24 hours will certainly be a very interesting challenge, and we are really excited about the opportunity we have.”
