The first-ever visit of the International GT Open to Silverstone was blessed by unusual sunny and hot weather, but turned out to be a weekend to forget for Joel Camathias. The Swiss driver and team mate Mario Cordoni, at the wheel of their Ombra Racing Ferrari F458 GT3, fell victims of race incidents in both races, achieving a 15th position on Saturday after a spin and a puncture, and having to retire from Race 2 on Sunday following a contact with the sister car of the team.
The International GT Open will be back after the summer break, with the 6th round at Spa-Francorchamps on 7-8 September.
Joël Camathias: “It was a frustrating weekend. The car was good in free practice, but as the temperature raised throughout the weekend, we struggled a bit with the set-up. In Race 1, Mario took the start but he was hit and sent into a spin at the end of his stint. Then, during mine, we suffered a puncture. It was a pity because the pace had come back… Race 2 was quite short as I had a contact with Stefano Costantini while I was passing him and we both went off-track. The steering got damaged and our race finished there. It’s always silly to get involved in an incident with another car of your team, but I was clearly faster than him. Anyway, these things happen and you have to take them without drama!”
