As another Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series draws to a close, Brumos /Racing has many reasons to anticipate their return to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the 2009 series finale event. This year has certainly proven to be a memorable one for the Brumos team, but following their unforgettable 1,3 finish at the Rolex 24 in Daytona, a repeat victory has thus far proven elusive. Although only one race remains, Brumos is far from ready to close out their chapter for 2009 in Grand-Am’s history book.
Homestead-Miami Speedway has seen many notable Brumos achievements over the years. In 2003, the track was the site of the first overall race win for a car from the newly instituted Grand-Am DP class, as Hurley Haywood & J.C. France took the Brumos #59 Fabcar to a victory there. Homestead will also be remembered as the site of Brumos principal Bob Snodgrass’ final race before his unexpected death in 2007. Last season saw yet another milestone, as David Donohue won the first of a series of pole positions for the Brumos #58 car in 2008, following up co-driver Darren Law’s own Homestead achievement – his first career Rolex Series pole in 2005.
Law recalled the team’s history there, saying, “Homestead has traditionally been a good track for Brumos, and we are happy to be able to close out our season there this year. We started the year off in the best way possible with our Daytona 24 hour win, so, of course, we want to end the year on a high note. I feel we have a good chance for a strong finish at Homestead. It would certainly be fitting to add another win to the long list of Brumos achievements there, and it would build some great momentum for us to carry forward into next season.”
In addition to being the site of J.C. France’s first career Rolex Series win, the Homestead track has also seen #59 co-driver Joao Barbosa on the podium while driving in the Grand-Am GTS class.
Barbosa shares his Brumos teammates’ enthusiasm and optimism for the season finale competition: “Last season’s race had nine full course cautions, and that made figuring out strategy very difficult. In such a close competition as we have this year, the same type of conditions really mean anyone could take the win. I believe we are getting stronger in every race, so we will do our best to give everyone a good run at Homestead and put Brumos back on the podium. J.C. is very close to winning the Trueman award, so that is our main goal, but to end the year back on the podium where we started it would be the best way we could finish our season.”
Following the race, The Brumos team will stay on and officially close their season by attending the annual Grand-Am Awards Banquet at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel in Ft. Lauderdale. The team anticipates celebrating a new milestone there, as the likely win of the Jim Trueman Sportsman Award by #59 driver J.C. France would mark the first back-to-back win of that prestigious honor.
