After the high speed crash that ended the Le Mans dream for the Beechdean Mansell Motorsport team and for Nigel Mansell , the British team have assessed the damage to the car and have announced that they will return to competitive international racing in the Le Mans Series in Hungary on August 21/22 and, most importantly to British fans at Silverstone, for the final round on September 11/12.

The damage to the Ginetta Zytek GZ09S following the 200 mph Le Mans accident, that was caused by a slow puncture, has forced the team to postpone their track return and miss the next LMS race in Portugal. This will allow the team time to rebuild the car and  allow Nigel Mansell time to recover from the incident that left the 1992 Formula One World Champion with concussion. Nigel is schedule to re- join the team’s driver line up for the Silverstone round. 

Nigel Mansell said: “I would like to thank everyone who sent messages after the accident at Le Mans and I can let everyone know I am on the mend.  The car was performing really well up to the end of the fourth lap but then the tyre deflated and pitched me into the barriers.  It was a big accident on one of the fastest parts of the track, I sustained concussion but I am OK.  We are now looking forward to the next race in Hungary, where Leo and Greg will share the driving duties and I will return to the cockpit with my sons for the final race at Silverstone in front of the British fans.”

Andrew Howard, Team Principal, said: “Once we got the car back to the UK and stripped it down we found that there was more damage to the car’s structure than we thought and we will need time to complete the work.  , we will be back in Hungary the following month and raring to go at our home race at Silverstone in September. What is really encouraging was the pace of the car in race conditions and on full tanks.”
