Thomas Jäger, AMG Customer Sports co-ordinator and AMG Test- and Development Driver, AMG Driver for the AMG-Team HTP Motorsport: “It is extremely busy around the track, which is making us very happy. I expect that it will be a thrilling race, especially because competition is really close this year.
There will be over 30 cars capable of winning on the grid. Never before has there been a field with such a high-class entry. As a result, the technical committee has to deal with a very demanding task to ensure equal chances for the various manufacturers here.
In all the races we have done with the new Mercedes-AMG GT3 in preparation, we have already pushed really hard and with the resulting podium finishes, we have proven our potential. However, it is difficult for us to judge where the opposition is.
Drivers are an extremely important factor in the 24-hour race. At Mercedes-AMG, we have, of course, firstly looked at drivers from the AMG programme who are usually racing in series like ADAC GT Masters, Blancpain Sprint or Endurance Series, or drivers competing in the DTM. I think that we have found a very good mix.
This year, for the first time, we are supporting AMG Customer Sport Teams who have qualified by means of particular abilities and achievements in the past. Next to the support from the AMG driver pool, these so-called Performance Teams also receive technical assistance. Especially the knowledge that is being transferred here is a decisive factor that we intend to transport into the teams.
Therefore, we will be racing with three AMG Performance Teams (AMG-Team BLACK FALCON, HARIBO Racing Team-AMG and AMG-Team HTP Motorsport), running a total of seven Mercedes-AMG GT3. Moreover, two further Customer Sport cars (BLACK FALCON and MANN-FILTER Team ZAKSPEED) will be on the grid.”
