With only a few weeks to go to Christmas and the end-of-year festivities it is an original idea for a present, which will delight all motor sport fans as well as those who would like to discover long-distance events and enjoy a week of parties by attending the greatest endurance race in the world.
The 2015 Le Mans 24 Hours was marked by Porsche’s victory, a year after the German make’s return to the blue riband category. The Stuttgart-based firm scored its first win on the Le Mans circuit for 15 years and extended its record number of victories to 17!
In 2016, Porsche will again take on its three rivals in the LM P1 category: Audi with its Le Mans experience and its capacity to take up challenges; Toyota, which is building a new weapon, and Nissan committed to return to Le Mans with a competitive car. The privateer teams too are determined to have their say.
The very successful LM P2 category will be the theatre of ding-dong battles between the many teams determined to follow in the footsteps of Hong Kong-based KCMG. Another one to watch out for is Frédéric Sausset and the Sausset Racing team 41 entered in this category in the context of the 56th garage in which technologies for handicapped people will be highlighted by this innovative motor sport project.
LM GTE promises all-action spectacle with the introduction of new technical regulations. Ford will be back on the grid 50 years after its historic one, two three. The battle with the other prestigious manufacturers entered for this category Ferrari, Porsche, Corvette and Aston Martin has all the makings of a real thriller.
On the sporting side, another important piece of news is that as a result of the investment made by the ACO during the winter 58 cars will be on the grid for the 84th Le Mans 24 Hours.
But the Le Mans 24-Hours race is also a unique ambiance which has met with great success among the ever-increasing number of spectators. A whole week of entertainment starting with scrutineering and administrative checks in the Le Mans town centre, the three evenings’ concerts, the Drivers’ Parade and the Womens’ Pavillion, a big hit in 2015, will delight fans as well as newcomers.
There will be a particularly full programme in 2016 thanks to the various new events the ACO is currently thinking up: they will be announced in the near future.
The Le Mans 24 Hours will take place on 18-19 June 2016 and before that the Test Day, a rehearsal for the race itself, will be held on 5th June.
The general enclosure ticket is priced at 58.50 euros for ACO members and 78 euros for spectators.
